NTA announces the investment to GigaMune, a novel gene delivery startup in the U.S.
ライフサイエンス・ヘルスケア領域でグローバル・エンジェル投資を行う株式会社Newsight Tech Angels（本社：東京都中央区日本橋、代表取締役 瀬尾亨、以下「NTA」）は、米国の有望な遺伝子送達スタートアップ、GigaMune社へ出資を行いました。

[Englilsh follows] 株式会社Newsight Tech Angels（以下「NTA」）は、次世代遺伝子治療の開発を進める創薬系スタートアップ GigaMune社（米国カリフォルニア州、CEO：David Johnson, Ph.D.）に対して投資を実行したことをお知らせいたします。今回のGigaMune社へのシードラウンドの資金調達は米国エンジェル投資家シ及びVCシンジケートがリードしており、日本からは唯一NTAが参加しています。
GigaMune社は、癌や重篤自己免疫疾患の根治治療のため、T 細胞受容体 (TCR) およびキメラ抗原受容体 (CAR) の in vivo 標的遺伝子送達のための新しい技術を開発しています。 GigaMune社のビジョンは、あらゆる遺伝子をどのような組織や細胞にの細胞に導入することにより、遺伝子治療を医療の主流へと変えていくことです。直近の目標は、すでにがん治療としてその効果が証明されているCAR-T医療のさらなる改善と、この技術によってコストを大幅に削減することにより、従来の生体外細胞療法からの脱却に挑戦することで、将来的には独自技術を活用して任意の細胞に目的の遺伝子を導入することにより、免疫炎症性疾患を含むパイプラインを拡大することを計画しています。
NTAは資金提供のみならず、我々が持つ創薬ノウハウやそ事業開発の高い専門性を活かし、GigaMune社の研究開発に貢献していきます。また、NTAの広いネットワークを活用し、日本の製薬会社の事業開発への橋渡しと今後の資金調達を支援していきます。同時に、NTAはGigaMune社の取締役会のオブザーバーも務めます。
NTAからの米国スタートアップへの投資は今回で3件目です。このように米国の優良案件に投資を行えるエンジェル投資家は日本において稀有な存在であり、現在も多くの国内外のスタートアップから投資検討依頼を受けております。NTAのグローバルなネットワークと豊富な経験を通して、引き続き日本のスタートアップの世界進出を支援していき、「国の枠を超えたダイナミックなエコシステム」の構築に貢献していきます。

Newsight Tech Angels Inc. (headquartered in Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Toru Seo, CEO; hereinafter "NTA") announces that it has made an investment to GigaMune (San Francisco, California, U.S.A., CEO: David Johnson, Ph.D.), a startup with a novel, next generation gene delivery platform. The seed round funding for Gigamune was led by a series of angel investors and VCs with NTA being a sole Japanese participant.
GigaMune is developing novel technologies for in vivo targeted gene delivery of T cell receptors (TCR) and chimeric antigen receptors (CAR) for the curative treatment of cancer and serious autoimmune diseases. GigaMune's vision is to transform gene therapy into mainstream medicine by delivering any gene into any tissue or cell. The immediate goal is to further improve CAR-T therapy, which has already proven its effectiveness as a cancer treatment, and to move beyond traditional ex vivo cellular therapies by significantly reducing the cost of this technology. In the future, the company plans to expand its pipeline to include immuno-inflammatory diseases.
In addition to our participation in investment, NTA will actively participate as an advisory to GigaMune to facilitate and support their progress in research and development by leveraging our strong drug discovery R&D expertise. NTA will also serve as an observer in their board.
NTA is proud to participate in GigaMune's success as this is NTA's third investment to an U.S. startup. NTA is one of the few angel investors in Japan that invests in such quality projects in the U.S., and it is NTA’s continuous commitment to explore new opportunities from startups in Japan and abroad.
