日本では、ファッション、ヘアメイク、インテリア、映像などの分野でプロ人材の育成を目的としたスクール事業を展開するバンタンデザイン研究所(本社所在地：東京都渋谷区 代表：長澤俊二)が、アジア圏で唯一同校との単位互換提携を結んでいるスクールとして、イベントを同時中継致しました。
63回目の開催となる今年の「Parsons Fashion Benefit」進行役には、パーソンズ大学の卒業生でCOACHのプレジデント兼エグゼクティブ・クリエイティブ・ディレクターであるリード・クラッコフ氏を迎え、ファッション学部卒業学年から選抜された優秀者によるランウェイショーが行われました。
ジョエル・タワーズ・パーソンズ大学学長は、初めての試みとなった同時中継に関し、「パーソンズは、学生、教員、卒業生の作品を通じて、（同時中継された）東京、ソウル、ドミニカ共和国を含む世界のコミュニティにこのような方法で繋がり、１年に１度の、我々にとって最大のイベントに参加して頂ける機会があることを非常にうれしく思う。」と発言しました。
また5月17日（火）には、「Parsons Fashion Benefit」開催に合わせて、パーソンズ大学の卒業生でもある、株式会社松屋銀座本店営業本部付顧問の太田伸之氏、プーマジャパン株式会社製品本部チーフデザイナーの大谷知恵子氏をゲストにお招きし、日本のファッション業界関係者参加のもと、日本のファッション業界の活性化を視野に入れた懇親会を実施致しました。
懇親会では、世界で活躍する著名クリエイターを輩出し続けるパーソンズの教育理念の紹介、また「Parsons Fashion Benefit」で披露されたパーソンズ卒業学年学生作品の審査会などが行われました。
審査会では、来賓審査員の方々にコンセプトの表現力、トレンド性、日本市場の中での市場性の3項目で作品を審査し、総合点が最も高かった2名の学生作品が優秀賞に選ばれました。
選ばれた学生の作品は、10月にバンタンデザイン研究所主催で開催されるVantan Cutting Edgeで日本での作品展示が行われる予定です。
今回のイベントは世界各国で優秀な人材を育成することでクリエイティブ業界を世界規模で活性化させていくことを目的とした、パーソンズとバンタンの更なる協力体制に向けた取り組みの1つとして開催されました。
2012年度からはパーソンズ大学のファッションマーケティング学部とのコラボレーションコースも開講予定です。

Parsons Fashion Benefit Goes Global
Major New York Event Will Be Simulcast to Parsons Communities in Japan, Korea
and Dominican Republic
NEW YORK, April 27, 2011-Parsons The New School for Design has announced that this year, for the first time, the school will simulcast its signature Parsons Fashion Benefit to audiences around the world. Parsons alumni, design professionals, and students at affiliate schools will attend events at Vantan Design Institute in Tokyo, Japan; Seoul, South Korea; and La Romana, Dominican Republic.
The Parsons Fashion Benefit, taking place on May 9 in New York City, celebrates visionaries in the field of design. This year, the benefit will honor Parsons alumnus and board member Reed Krakoff, President and Executive Creative Director of Coach, and also pay special tribute to industry leaders Arnold Aronson and Marvin Traub. A highlight of the event is a fashion show of the top collections of the Parsons graduating fashion design students, including Designer of the Year. The fashion show is credited with launching the careers of some of Parsons most famous alumni, including Marc Jacobs and Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler.
“Whether it is Tokyo, Seoul or the Dominican Republic, Parsons is engaged in communities around the world through the work of our students, faculty and alumni,” said Joel Towers, executive dean of Parsons The New School for Design. “It is wonderful to have a chance to connect in this way with our colleagues overseas and to have them be part of one of the biggest events of our year.”
