イースト EPUB3対応のPC用リーダー(世界初)を無償公開
イーストは、今年5月23日に電子書籍標準化団体IDPF(International Digital Publishing Forum)が仕様を発表したばかりの「EPUB3.0」に対応したWindows PC用リーダー「espur(エスパー)試作版、v0.8」を、本日、無償で一般公開しました。
イースト株式会社(本社：東京都渋谷区代々木、代表取締役社長：下川和男)は、今年5月23日に電子書籍標準化団体IDPF(International Digital Publishing Forum)が仕様を発表したばかりの「EPUB3.0」に対応したWindows PC用リーダー「espur(エスパー)試作版、v0.8」を、本日、無償で一般公開しました。
espurはWindows 7およびVistaで動作するEPUBリーダーで、最新のWebKit (r90335)を使っており、縦書き、ルビ、禁則、見開き表示などの日本語組版に対応しています。 5月23日時点でのIDPF EPUB 3.0仕様に基づいて試作されたリーダーで、今後の仕様変更の影響を受ける可能性があります。 事実上の世界標準となっているEPUBの日本での普及と、EPUBコンテンツの技術的な確認を目的として配布するもので、おそらく世界ではじめてのEPUB3.0対応リーダーです。
イーストは、6月20日にHTMLとCSSからEPUB3を生成するepubpack(http://epubpack.cloudapp.net)、7月1日にブログからEPUB3を作るMyBooks.jp(http://mybooks.jp)を発表しており、これらが出力する縦書きEPUBコンテンツも、espurで読むことができます。

EAST released EPUB 3 reader for Windows PC to the world
EAST (CEO Kazuo Shimoawa, Tokyo) released espur V0.8 trial version, which is a free of use EPUB 3 reader software for Windows PC.
EPUB 3 is a global eBook standard format led by IDPF (International Digital Publication Forum) and became a proposed specification on May 23, 2011.
espur uses the WebKit (r90335) as a rendering engine and enables Japanese text layouts such as vertical-writing, Ruby, line-break and page-spread.
'espur' conforms to the latest level of EPUB 3 and will be updated according to any changes of the specification. espur has been released to promote a global de facto standard in Japan and to confirm technical accuracy as well. EAST believes espur is the world's first EPUB 3 reader.
EAST has launched epubpack (http://epubpack.cloudapp.net), an EPUB 3 file creation cloud service on June 20, and announced MyBooks.jp (http://mybooks.jp), which converts a blog to EPUB 3 on July 1. Any EPUB 3 files created by either epubpack and MyBooks can be viewed by espur.
